YUSUF ŞAHİN

He was born in 1954 in Kırşehir. He completed his Bachelor's degree in 1977 and his Master's degree in 1988 at Gazi University, Ankara. In 1995, with the support of the Council of Higher Education (YOK), he completed his PhD research at Aston University, Department of Mechanical Engineering (UK) on the development of metal matrix composites and improvement of their mechanical and wear behavior.

He became Assistant Professor at Gazi University, Faculty of Technical Education, Department of Mechanical Education in 1995, Associate Professor in 1996 and Professor at Gazi University in 2002. He gave lectures at the Military Academy and Atılım University Mechanical Engineering Department. In 2011, he transferred to Gazi University Faculty of Technology, Department of Manufacturing Engineering. In 2013, he conducted research at Virginia Polytechnic University as a Visiting Professor. On March 8, 2015, he continued his studies for more than a year as a Research Professor at the Department of Mechanical, Construction and Manufacturing Engineering (Soete Lab.) at Ghent University, Belgium.​

In 2018, he retired from Gazi University. Prof. Şahin was appointed to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Near East University in 2018. On August 17, 2020, he moved to Nişantaşı University Department of Mechanical Engineering. He successfully completed the project titled “Production of hybrid composites by VARTIM method and improvement of mechanical properties”. Mechanical Engineering department won “Mechanical Test Lab./Composite Production Lab.” Stanford University announced the top 2 percent of the world's scientists. Prof. Şahin managed to be included in the list of “The World's Most Influential Scientists”, which was created by taking into account the “1996-2020 Studies”. He also served as the Conference chairman at the “6th International / 7th International Engineering, Technology and Management Congress” Online conference organized in Istanbul in 2021 and 2022. On September 27, 2022, he left his post.

Prof. Sahin joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at OSTIM Technical University on October 7, 2022. His area of expertise consists of Machine Tools, Chip Removal Technology, Wear/Friction, Manufacturing Processes, Powder Metallurgy, Experimental Design and Analysis as well as ANN methods. He has presented papers in National and International Symposiums and published more than 160 original articles in well-known foreign journals. In addition, he has a total of 5 published books.
