What is a Diploma Supplement (Blue Diploma)? Where is it Used?

​Initiated in 1999 with the joint signature of 29 European countries, the Bologna Process took its current form following Turkey’s accession in 2001 and the subsequent inclusion of several other European nations. This process has ensured that higher education systems across Europe become comparable and compatible. The education provided by member states is documented through a Diploma Supplement, commonly referred to as the "Blue Diploma." The Blue Diploma facilitates the recognition and evaluation of the education received at a university by other European countries.

Since its implementation in Turkey, the Diploma Supplement (Blue Diploma) has been embraced by both public and private foundation universities. An increasing number of reputable institutions have begun to issue the Blue Diploma as an official supplement to graduates’ diplomas. Although it does not serve as a diploma on its own, it indicates that the education provided aligns with the core principles of the European Higher Education Area. It is issued in addition to the diploma and is written in English.
